Fishing & snow report

Mountain Streams:

(Including Clear Creek, Crazy Woman Creek, Rock Creek, Piney Creek and Tensleep Creek and their tributaries)

Bighorn mountain streams are all open and water levels are normal.

Fly Fishermen may have luck with a variety of Attractor Dry Flies, good patterns would be Elk Hair Caddis, Purple Haze, Micro Chubbies, and Stimulators. Dry/Dropper Rigs are especially effective, trail a small beadhead nymph behind a bouyant, visible dry fly. Good nymph patterns would be Copper Johns, Prince Nymphs, or Pheasant Tails.

Spin Fishermen should try small Spinners, like Panther Martins, Mepps Aglia, or Rooster Tails.

Also, worms fished in the deeper, slower sections can be very effective.

Mountain Lakes:

(Including Tie Hack Reservoir, Meadowlark Lake, and Cloud Peak Wilderness Lakes)

Bighorn Mountain lakes are all open and Fishing is good.

Fly Fishermen should try small nymphs like Pheasant Tails and Hare’s Ears. Good dry fly patterns would be a Peacock Caddis, Renegade, or Adams. A small Beetle or Ant pattern may also be effective.

Spin Fishermen can try Flies fished behind a bubble, or small Spinners, or Lures. Good bets would be Panther Martin Spinners, Lil’ Jakes Lures, and small Kastmasters.

Lake Desmet:

Lake DeSmet is open and fishing for Lake Trout is good.

Trout fishermen may have luck trolling with Krocodile Spoons, Rapalas, or Worm Harnesses for Rainbows.
Bank fishermen could have luck with Powerbait fished off the bottom.
Fly Fishermen may have luck on the South Dam area, fishing with Midges or Choronomids fished below an indicator.

Try fishing with large Flatfish lures on downriggers or are jigging with large white jigs for Lake Trout.

Kokanee Fishermen should try trolling with a 4 1/2” Dodger trailed by a Hoochie or Wedding Ring tipped with a piece of corn or waxie.

Prairie Streams:

(Including Clear Creek, Crazy Woman Creek, Rock Creek and Piney Creek)

Lower elevation streams are low and warm and fishing is fair. Try to focus on the early morning hours for best results.

Fly fishermen may have luck with Grasshopper Patterns, Parachute Adams, or Elk Hair Caddis. Streamers or Wooly Buggers trailed with a small beadhead nymph, Perdigon, or Squirmie Wormie can also be effective.

Spin Fishermen may have luck with Spinners with Gold, Silver, or Copper Blades.

Worms fished in slower, deeper, sections will also be effective.

Prairie Lakes and Ponds:

(Including Healy Reservoir, and Muddy Guard Reservoirs)

Muddy Guard Reservoirs have good water levels, but water temperatures are warm. Focus on early morning hours for best fishing.

Fly fishermen should try Damsel nymphs, Callibaetis Nymphs, or with streamer patterns. Be on the lookout for a Callibaetis Hatch on some afternoons. Good patterns would be Standard Adams, or Adams Irresitible.

Spin Fishermen might try Jake's Lures or Panther Martin Spinners.

Healy Reservoir is fishing well.

Anglers are doing well catching Perch with Worms fished off of a Crappie rig.

Bass Fishermen are seeing some action with Crankbaits, Wacky Worm rigs, Spinner Baits, or Poppers.

For Tiger Muskies, try large Rapalas, or Large Mepps Bucktail Spinners.

Meadowlark Ski Lodge and Antelope Butte Ski Area are closed for the season.
